History and Members
ETHIBEL was set up in 1992 when
the two sources of inspirations came together. The original
inspiration to set up ETHIBEL came from NGOs that are active
in the field of alternative financing, environment, the peace
movement, the third world and other areas of social action.
The actual establishment was realised thruogh the plan by
a stock broker who wished to create a socially responsible
investment fund and the need to create an independent, and
specialised screening organisation to give advice.
Nowadays, ETHIBEL fulfills the role of an intermediary advisor
for the financial and the corporate world. The persons and
organisations sitting on ETHIBEL's Board of Directors are
specialised in various aspects of sustainable development
representing stakeholders groups in various ways (trade unions,
environment, peace and third world movements, NGOs active
in social-ethical financing, etc.) while ETHIBEL's customers
are mainly active in the financial world. Input from both
sides is essential for the continuous improvement of criteria
and methodology behind
the ETHIBEL quality label.
ETHIBEL members include these persons and organisations
who are professionally involved in a specific ethical domain.
